Sustainability
It is incredibly important that my products are made with sustainability and environmental welfare in mind. Working with wool gives me a head start, because as well as creating high quality, durable, and beautiful products, wool is 100% natural and biodegradable.
I work with UK and Irish wool producers who meet high ethical standards, ensuring that chemicals are not released into pastureland during the wool dyeing process. They reduce energy consumption by using both traditional spinning techniques, as well as working with energy efficient wool preparation equipment.
My Bonnie Kirkwood brand labels are woven from recycled polyester, as is the stitching thread for the construction of my cushions, saving waste fibres from landfill. The storage cloth bags are made from recycled cotton and polyester yarn created from melted-down plastic bottles.
I am proud to work with crafts people across England, Scotland and Ireland to produce a range of products which are designed to last and which celebrate the skills, workmanship and heritage which champion our collective manufacturing history. All my throws and cushions are made in small batches, to avoid overproduction.
By choosing to purchase Bonnie Kirkwood textiles, you are bringing a more sustainable product into your home, not just in terms of the materials used but the responsible way in which the item was made. Designed and made to last, I hope my range of soft furnishings will be passed down through generations.
